Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wird Deutschland geteilt. In Ost- und Westdeutschland. In der DDR ging es den Menschen schlecht. Sie mussten jahrelang auf ein neues Auto warten und die Straßen waren kaputt. Die Menschen gingen auf die Straße und protestierten für den Fall der Mauer, für Meinungsfreiheit und freie Wahlen. Die Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands fand am 3. Oktober 1990 statt, nachdem das SED-Regime in der DDR zusammengebrochen war. Die wachsende Protestwelle der DDR-Bürger hatte am 9. November 1989 zur Öffnung der Berliner Mauer geführt. Dieser Tag ist so bedeutend für die deutsche Geschichte, dass er bis heute gefeiert wird.

After the Second World War, Germany was divided. Into East and West Germany. People in the DDR were not doing well. They had to wait years for their new cars, and the streets were in disrepair. People took to the streets to protest against the fall of the Berlin Wall and for freedom of speech and free elections. The reunification of Germany took place on 3 October 1990, the precondition for which was the collapse of the SED regime in the GDR. As a result of the growing wave of protests by the citizens of the GDR, the Berlin Wall came down on 9 November 1989. This day was so important in German history that it is still celebrated today.
