Commemoration days

 

Sometimes it is necessary to preserve memories – even of less pleasant days and events. During our project visit to Lisbon, we examined five important historical events in Portuguese history – each at the original location. Appropriately, the commemoration day for the proclamation of the Portuguese Republic fell exactly during our stay. In this context, we compiled a list of dates that are or were important commemorative days or public holidays in Germany.

We focused particularly intensively on commemorating the persecution of Jews during the Third Reich. We were involved (independently of the excursion to Portugal) in planning the content of the commemoration of Kristallnacht on 9 November 2024.
